Born September 9, 1961, Newton, MA, James Bernard Corsi was an American professional baseball pitcher. He played in in Major League Baseball for the Oakland Athletics, Houston Astros, Florida Marlins, Boston Red Sox, and Baltimore Orioles.
Corsi pitched for 10 seasons in the Major Leagues. He won a World Series with the Oakland Athletics in 1989. He spent three seasons pitching for the Red Sox from 1997-to-1999.
Corsi attended and pitched for Saint Leo University in St. Leo, Florida, an NCAA Division II school in the Sunshine State Conference; he was inducted to the university’s athletic hall of fame in 2003. Selected by the New York Yankees in the 1982 MLB draft, his professional career spanned 1982 to 2000, pitching each season except for 1984.
Corsi was a member of the inaugural Florida Marlins team that began play in 1993. He pitched in the postseason for the Oakland Athletics in the 1992 American League Championship Series and for the Boston Red Sox in the 1998 American League Division Series. In 10 seasons pitching in MLB, Corsi had a 22–24 win–loss record in 368 games pitched, all but one in relief. He had a 3.25 earned run average (ERA), striking out 290 batters in 481+1⁄3 innings pitched, and recorded seven saves.
From 2002 to 2005, Corsi was a studio analyst for Boston Red Sox coverage on both the New England Sports Network and UPN 38 baseball coverage. In January 2022, Corsi stated that he had been diagnosed with stage four cancer of the liver and colon.
