Marfark Naigles Death, UConn Mathematics Lecturer Passed Away At Age 61

Marfark Naigles Death, Cause Of Death –  Marfark Naigles age 61 passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 30, in his Tolland home., Marfark was a lecturer in the department of mathematics at UConn and former associate professor of mathematics at Nichols College. Mark was born in Miami Beach, FL, grew up in Niskayuna, NY graduated from Brown University with an ScB in math in 1982, and earned his M.S. in math from Tufts University in 1984.

In 1993, he became an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. In 2003, Mark began teaching at Nichols College, where he innovated courses in Actuarial Mathematics and Algebra for Business.

Mark also taught Problem Solving at UConn for over 15 years, receiving the Institute for Teaching and Learning Outstanding Adjunct Award in 2011. Mark was an enthusiastic math tutor to hundreds of students, from 3rd graders to graduate level. Mark served as president of Beth El Congregation of Storrs-Mansfield for 10 years, as Treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 223 for 4 years, and as Treasurer of the Inter-Religious Eco-Justice Network (IREJN) since 2018.

Mark and Letty raised two children, Gregory (now of Concord, NH) and Beverly (now of San Diego, CA), and enjoyed hiking, watching Star Trek and Jeopardy!, serving their communities, and cooking and eating Turkish food. Mark is survived by his wife, Letty, his two children, Beverly and Gregory, his mother Janet Kaufmann and stepfather Lawrence Kaufmann, and his sister Deborah N. Lurie (Brian), as well as four brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, four nieces and five nephews.
