Ben Rau Death, Family Mourns The Tragic Death Of Ben Rau

January 7, 2022 By Teejay Ericson 0

Ben Rau Death, Cause Of Death – Ben Rau has passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2022.  Born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 13, 1998, to his parents Kenneth Vaughn Rau and Janet Marie Rau. It is with a crushed heart that my family and I share the news of the death of our son, Ben. Benjamin William Rau was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 13, 1998, to his parents Kenneth Vaughn Rau and Janet Marie Rau. He lived in Atlanta for most of his life with his family.

As a child, Ben grew up alongside his sister Dorothy Marie Rau, who was a year and a half older than him. He first lived in Mableton, Georgia in a house with grass for running, trees for climbing, a swing set, a golden retriever, and a fig tree he loved very much. After the birth of his brother Alexander Sigman Rau, Ben’s family moved to a house in Smyrna, Georgia with a pond full of koi, a garden, a creek, and a house with a stained glass window.

Ben attended the Lovett School in Vinings, Georgia from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Ben loathed neat uniforms and uninteresting homework. While at school, he loved interesting facts, caring teachers, kind friends, and music. During his 11th grade year, Ben traveled to Istanbul, Turkey where he lived for several months and found great joy in eating yogurt and exploring the Istanbul cityscapes with his host brothers.
It is at Lovett that he discovered his love of and proclivity for the cello.

After locating his musical spark, he devoted himself completely to the study of the instrument under several amazing teachers whom he loved greatly. Ben played his cello at home, at churches, at concerts, at competitions (several of which he won), with friends, on vacations, in times of sadness, and in times of joy.
Ben also had family in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Washington D.C; Memphis, Tennessee; and Garland, Texas.

With his family, Ben spent winters on St George Island, Florida where he collected sea snails, learned to ride and bike, and built sandcastles with his brother and sister. Summers were often spent in the Black Hills of South Dakota, hiking, watching thunderstorms, admiring buffalo, and eating bumbleberry pie.

Ben loved to work with his hands, he could pluck out a symphony, tile a bathroom, roll sushi, rub knots out of backs, install a pool, play soccer, wrestle and hug those he loved to the brink of bodily absorption. Ben never forgot to say how much he loved his family. Benjamin William Rau was a musician, an almanac, a friend, a lover, a brother, and a son.

Ben died on January 3, 2022, at his family home in Smyrna, Georgia. He is survived by his parents, brother, sister, three grandparents, seven cousins, and 10 aunts and uncles. His memorial service will be held at the Lovett School Chapel at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 8, 2022, the very space where he first heard the cello. The family welcomes friends to join us with care given to wear facemasks and socially distance. A live stream option is available here for those who wish to join us virtually.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations could go to the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse, a nonprofit that advocates for and supports individuals in recovery, a cause that Ben held dear.
