Junior Siavii dead and obituary, Ex-Dallas Cowboys DL Junior Siavii Found Dead In PrisonJanuary 15, 2022
Former NFL defensive lineman Saousoalii “Junior” Siavii died Thursday at Leavenworth Prison, according to the Kansas City Star. Siavi is 43 years old.
The cause of death was not released.
Siavii was transferred to the US Prison at Moderate Security Prison in Leavenworth on December 17. He is awaiting trial on federal criminal charges related to drug trafficking and illegal gun possession.
Siavii was arrested in August 2019 on suspicion of illegal firearm possession during a fight with police in Kansas. A criminal indictment later named Siavii as part of a Missouri methamphetamine drug conspiracy in which he and eight co-defendants were charged.
The Chiefs selected Siavii in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He played two seasons with the team before a knee injury forced him out of football for two years. Siavii returned with the Cowboys in 2009 and played all 16 games.
The Cowboys ruled Siavii out of the preseason in 2010, and he signed with the Seahawks and played 14 games until a spinal cord injury ended his career.
Federal prosecutors say the former football player was involved in a grand scheme to distribute methamphetamine. They also claimed, among other things, that he was in possession of a firearm illegally during a frantic arrest in August 2019.
Siavii was drafted out of Oregon by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 2004 NFL draft…he went on to play 16 games for the Dallas Cowboys in 2009.
He spent one season with the Seahawks in 2010 before his NFL career ended in 2011.
