One dead, 2 hurt in Joint Base Lewis-McChord training accident

Pfc. Joseph A. Marquez Death – According to a release from 7th Infantry Division spokesperson Lt. Col. Travis Dettmer, Pfc. Joseph A. Marquez of Dover, Delaware, was killed in the Yakima Training Area tragedy.

The man was a member of the 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry, which is part of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division. Because the 2nd ID headquarters is permanently stationed in South Korea, the 7th ID commands the JBLM-based 2nd ID units.

The two injured servicemen, who were not identified for privacy concerns, were treated and released from Yakima Memorial Hospital with “minimal injuries,” according to Dettmer.

According to ArmyTimes, It’s unknown what kind of car was involved in the accident, as well as how it happened. Officials from the 7th ID did not immediately react to Army Times’ inquiry about the circumstances of the tragedy.

As information regarding Marquez’s memorial service becomes available, squadron leaders said they will post it on the unit’s Facebook page.
